Lying here alone,
awake in my bed,
I started thinking about
the things she had said,

She no longer loved me,
she no longer cared,
she would have stayed longer,
she no longer dared.

She was my wife,
but she said she had found another,
he had wooed her nicely,
she had made him her lover.

She said she still loved me,
but in love with me she was not,
she had found someone better,
and found the love she had not got,
from me.

She said she was sorry,
and she hung up the phone,
and when the receiver clicked,
I was truly alone.

As I lay here,
my mind full of dread,
the tears come quickly,
alone in this bed,
for life had left me and
I was dead,
and this was hell’s torture,
the things she had said.
